We endeavor to serve the needs of our congregation through a variety of ministries.

Expositional Preaching

The primary ministry at Oakland is the expositional preaching of God's Word. If the Word of God is a "lamp unto my feet" (Psalm 119:105), we do not need to know someone's opinions about how to live our best life in this world, how to run a successful business, or how to positively raise our children. We want to hear a message that uses the Word of God as its primary source in an effort to, word upon word, line upon line, explain the meaning of God's Word so that we may know God for who He truly is and gladly obey Him.

The Apostle Paul instructed his protege Timothy, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth" (2 Tim 2:15). The goal of the teaching ministry at Oakland is two-fold. The first objective is to help the learner not only understand God's word but to provide him with the tools to accurately study the Word of God for himself. The second objective is to foster an atmosphere of community, openness, and interdependence among those who are learning God's Word.

Children's Ministry

Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me." (Matthew 19:14). Oakland's Children's Ministry is not about entertainment. It is about a keen focus on sharing God's Word with children in a way that they see God for who He truly is in a way that is encouraging and age appropriate.

Youth Ministry

Our High School and Middle School age students are facing many complex issues in a culture that is prone to focus on opinions and emotions instead of facts and truth. Oakland's Youth Ministry is focused on providing our students with the knowledge of God's Word to help them understand how to live as a Christ follower in a culture that is often antithetical and even hostile to the principles of the Christian faith.
